Mené par le chanteur et show-man Jay Kay, adepte des couvre-chefs déments, le groupe Jamiroquai a imposé son style british déjanté dans le monde de la musique. Le nom du groupe n'est pas fortuit. Le mot "jam" est un terme de jazz qui signifie l'improvisation musicale, le second, "quaï", est une référence à tribu amérindienne des Iroquois. Leur premier titre When you Gonna Learn ? remporte un succès immédiat et entraîne en 1993 la création d'un premier album, Emergency on Planet Earth, suivi de The Return of The Space Cow-Boy deux ans plus tard. La parution de Travelling Without Moving en 1996 fait connaître le groupe au monde entier. Avec leur style acid jazz et leur sens de la dérision, Jay Kay et ses musiciens s'imposent grâce aux tubes Virtual Insanity et Cosmic Girl, qui assoient leur réputation. En 1999, la sortie de Synchronized surprend le public avec ses accords électroniques et techno, loin de leur style habituel. A Funk Odyssey confirme l'influence du disco et le deuxième titre de cet album, Little L, caracole en tête des hit-parades de la planète. Après quelques années d'absence sur la scène, ils font leur grand retour en 2005 avec le très éclectique Dynamite. Malgré les années écoulées, Jamiroquai n'a rien perdu de sa superbe : pour preuve, les revoilà en tête des ventes. Malgré le profond désaccord avec sa maison de disques, le groupe sort une compilation de ses plus grands hits, Jay Kay clamant haut et fort son dégoût pour ce marketing imposé par Sony Music. Fin 2006, la rupture est consommée, Jamiroquai se jurant de partir désormais à l'aventure avec des ruses de sioux...
