Burt Bacharach

Enlevez les titres de Burt Bacharach des classements de vente des années 1960, et que reste-t-il ? Pas grand-chose : lui et son parolier Hal David ont signés des chansons si célèbres et si souvent utilisées dans les pubs télé qu'il est devenu difficile d'en identifier l'interprète d'origine. Pour son égérie Dionne Warwick, Bacharach a créé Don't Make Me Over ou I'll Never Fall In Love Again mais surtout les magnifiques Walk on By et Do you Know the Way to San Jose; Sandie Shaw a chanté (There Is) Always Something There To Remind Me reprise en français par Eddy Mitchell : "Il y a toujours un coin qui me rappelle..."; Jackie DeShannon a fait de What The World Needs Now Is Love un classique. Mais l'élégant Burt n'a pas composé que pour des chanteuses sexy : The Look of Love de Dusty Springfield c'est encore lui, tout comme I Say A Little Prayer d'Aretha Franklin, le Make It Easy On Yourself des Walker Brothers, Magic Moments pour Perry Como (son tout premier tube) ou Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head, repris en français par Sacha Distel. La patte Bacharach est facilement reconnaissable : des arrangements distingués, presque jazzies mais emphatiques. Parmi ses morceaux moins connus, Tower Of Strength, Liberty Valance ou (There Goes) The Forgotten Man ont à chaque fois illuminé la carrière de leurs interprètes respectifs. Burt, beau et sportif durant les 60's, va peu à peu disparaître de la circulation, n'existant plus qu'à travers les hommages de ses nombreux admirateurs, le plus fameux étant Elvis Costello avec qui il a collaboré en 1996 pour la BO du film Grace Of My Heart. // PS : je rajoute dans les chansons à écouter Reach Out For Me de Nancy Wilson et The Story Of My Life de Marty Robbins.
